What this Hiroshima bus tour covers in 8 hours

The day runs 8 hours, meets at 10:00am in front of the Shinkansen ticket gate on 2F at Hiroshima Station and ends back at the same station. One bus links Hiroshima Castle, the Atomic Bomb Dome, Peace Memorial Park and the Peace Memorial Museum, then the ferry across to Miyajima for Itsukushima Shrine and Daishoin Temple.

The guide is an English-speaking local. Inside the bus there is audio guidance in English, French, Spanish, Italian, German, Portuguese and Ukrainian, which matters if your group does not all share one language. Admission is covered for the Peace Memorial Museum, Miyajima Island and Itsukushima Shrine, the vehicle is air-conditioned and the ferry is round-trip.

Stop times are fixed and worth knowing before you choose: 15 minutes at the Dome, 35 minutes in the park, 60 minutes in the museum, 50 minutes on Miyajima around lunch, 50 minutes at Itsukushima Shrine and 30 minutes at Daishoin. Sixty minutes in the museum goes quickly if you read every panel, so start with the permanent exhibition and keep moving. Hotel pickup and drop-off is not included, and food and drinks beyond the lunch option are not covered.

The day step by step

  1. Hiroshima Castle
The castle was built in 1589. Its main keep has been closed since March 2026 on safety grounds, so this stop takes in the exterior and the castle grounds. No set time is listed for this stop.
  2. Atomic Bomb Dome 15 min
Fifteen minutes at the preserved ruin of the Hiroshima Prefectural Industrial Promotion Hall, now known by its bare dome. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1996 and stands as a memorial to the bombing of 6 August 1945.
  3. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park 35 min
Thirty-five minutes walking the park between the Dome and the museum, past the cenotaph and the other monuments. The annual Peace Memorial Ceremony is held here each 6 August.
  4. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum 60 min
An hour inside the museum, open to the public since 1955, with photographs, personal accounts and objects from the city. When the museum is shut for its February exhibition changeover, the stop becomes the Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims.
  5. JR Nishinihon Miyajima Ferry 20 min
The ferry stop is listed at 20 minutes including boarding; the crossing itself takes about 10. Both legs of the ferry are included in the tour.
  6. Miyajima 50 min
Fifty minutes on the island, which is lunchtime for anyone who took the lunch option. Hiroshima-style okonomiyaki is layered rather than mixed: batter on the griddle, then shredded cabbage, pork and noodles, finished with okonomiyaki sauce, bonito flakes and mayonnaise. A vegetarian version without pork or bonito flakes is made if you request it when you book. There is no vegan, halal or gluten-free lunch, so in those cases select the without-lunch option and bring your own, or use the island time as you prefer.
  7. Itsukushima Shrine 50 min
Fifty minutes at the shrine built out over the water, founded in 593 and largely rebuilt in 1168 by Taira no Kiyomori. The Great Torii stands apart from the shrine in the shallows, and walking out to it depends on the tide on the day you visit.
  8. Daishoin Temple 30 min
Thirty minutes at Daishoin, the temple above the shrine, with rows of Jizo guardian statues in brightly coloured outfits, a reclining Buddha and lanterns along the steps.
