Hiroshima Airport sits well outside the city, in the hills to the east, and no train reaches the terminal. The limousine bus to Hiroshima Station is the connection almost everyone uses, and the rest of your day is built on top of it.
Updated 4 November 2026
No railway line touches the terminal, so the airport limousine bus does the whole job. Its main run goes to the Shinkansen Gate of Hiroshima Station and the airport's own timetable schedules it at about 50 minutes, with 46 departures a day in that direction, from 07:20 until 21:55. Transit IC cards are accepted at the door, which saves fumbling for coins after a flight.
The first departure at 07:20 matters more than people expect. If you land on an early domestic flight you may still be waiting in the terminal, and the Peace Memorial Museum's 7:30am opening is out of reach on arrival day whatever you do. Treat the airport transfer as the first hour of your itinerary rather than something that happens before it, and check the posted times for your date, because this is the only route with departures spread across the whole day.
Bus stops are on the first floor of the terminal, numbered by destination rather than by company, so the only thing you need to know on landing is your number. Stop 2 is the one for Hiroshima Station and for Miyajima-guchi. Stop 1 handles the Hiroshima Bus Center route via Nakasuji and Kure, stop 3 covers Fukuyama, Mihara and Onomichi, stop 4 Shiraichi and Saijo, and stop 6 Takehara and Tadanoumi.
At the city end the bus uses Platform 5 at Hiroshima Station's Shinkansen Gate. That puts you on the north side of the station, the same side as the Shinkansen ticket gates and the Shinkansenguchi bus berths, where the guided days that start here form up. Walk through the station building if your hotel or the tram platforms are on the south side.

The meeting point is 2F in front of the Shinkansen ticket gate at Hiroshima Station's North Gate at 10:00am, a short walk from Platform 5 where the limousine bus pulls in, with the ferry and the main admissions inside the arrangement.

Hiroden trams take over once the bus has dropped you. For the park, allow about 25 minutes on a tram to Genbaku Dome-mae and roughly 10 minutes on foot at the end. The alternative is streetcar line 1 or bus 24 to Hon-dori, about 20 minutes plus a five-minute walk, which lands you in the shopping arcades first and is the better choice if you want lunch before the museum.
On the trams there is nothing to buy at the door. You pay as you get off, and nine IC cards are accepted, including Suica, PASMO and ICOCA, touched both on boarding and on alighting. Read the front of the car before stepping on: from the Hiroshima Station stop, routes 1 and 5 head for Hiroshima Port, route 2 for Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi and route 6 for Eba.
The sightseeing loop bus is the other option and it starts from the Shinkansen exit you have just walked out of, which makes it easy on arrival day with luggage already dropped. Its route was reorganised into one line on 18 July 2026, and the order of calls now reads Hiroshima Prefectural Art Museum, Hiroshima Castle, Hiroshima Museum of Art, Genbaku Dome-mae, Heiwa Koen-mae and Namiki-dori Iriguchi. Departures are daily, 9:00 to 18:00, at intervals of 10 to 15 minutes, 42 trips a day, so there is no timetable to memorise with a flight behind you.
Museum hours decide how much of the park is worth attempting after a flight. Closing time at the Peace Memorial Museum is 7:00pm from March to July and again from September to November, 8:00pm in August and 6:00pm from December to February, which is why a late-afternoon landing can still leave useful time inside; the catch sits at either end of the day, where entry to the permanent exhibition during the early-morning and late-evening extension windows runs on online reservations. Its neighbour, the National Peace Memorial Hall, keeps a shorter day: doors at 8:30am, then closing at 6:00pm March to November, 7:00pm in August and 5:00pm December to February.
Stop 2 serves Miyajima-guchi as well as Hiroshima Station, so you can head for the island without entering the city at all. From the Miyajima-guchi waterfront the crossing is about 10 minutes, with sailings roughly every quarter of an hour through the middle of the day and gaps of 20 to 30 minutes early and late. If you have gone into the city first, route 2 runs from the Hiroshima Station tram stop through to Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi with no change.
For a hotel in the central districts rather than by the station, the Hiroshima Bus Center route from stop 1 is the one to take: roughly 55 minutes, with about 30 departures spread between 05:55 and 18:45. The eastern routes from stop 3 reach Fukuyama Station in about 65 minutes, with six departures each way a day, and Mihara Station in about 38 minutes with five each way, which is the useful one for Onomichi and for Okunoshima. Stop 4 points at Saijo and its brewery quarter, stop 6 at Takehara and Tadanoumi.
Timetables on the minor routes are thin enough that a missed bus reshapes the day, so confirm the posted departures at the stop on arrival.

Two of the full-day options on this site form up at Hiroshima Station, on the same north side where the airport bus sets you down. The Peaceful Hiroshima & Miyajima UNESCO 1 Day Bus Tour assembles at 10:00am on 2F, in front of the Shinkansen ticket gate at the North Gate, 2-37 Matsubaracho, Minami-ku, where staff hold a green and white flag. Eight hours cover an English-speaking local guide, bus audio in EN, FR, ES, IT, DE, PT and UA, the ferry in both directions and admission for the Peace Memorial Museum, Miyajima Island and Itsukushima Shrine. From 19,488 yen, 5.0 ★ (9,528 reviews).
The Hiroshima & Miyajima Guided tour with Itsukushima Shrine & Ferry has a meeting point at either end of the tram line: Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi Station, or the Shinkansenguchi Hiroba bus berth between stops 8 and 9 outside Hiroshima Station, which you reach by the North Exit and down the stairs. Arrive 15 minutes early. Eight hours, round-trip bus and ferry, a bilingual guide in English and Spanish, entrance to Itsukushima Shrine. From JPY 7127, 4.9 ★ (740 reviews).
Arithmetic decides whether arrival day works. The first bus out of the airport is at 07:20 and the ride is scheduled at about 50 minutes, so a 10:00am start at the station only holds if you are on the ground early and already through baggage. Leave two clear hours between wheels-down and the meeting time, and more if your luggage goes to the hotel first.
Land mid-morning or later and keep the guided day for the following morning. Add up the stops on the prefectural tourism board's own one-day plan for the two World Heritage sites and you get about 220 minutes: 30 minutes at the Atomic Bomb Dome, 60 at the museum, a 45-minute boat leg and 60 at Itsukushima Shrine. That is why the bus days are built as a fixed 8 hours.
According to the airport's own timetable, departures from the airport run from 07:20 to 21:55, with 46 of them a day. In the other direction the first bus leaves Hiroshima Station at 05:55 and the last at 19:00, 51 departures a day. Flights that land before 07:20 or after 21:55 fall outside the schedule, so check the posted times for your date.
Transit IC cards are accepted on the limousine bus to Hiroshima Station. Hiroden trams take nine of them, Kitaca, PASMO, Suica, manaca, TOICA, ICOCA, HAYAKAKEN, nimoca and SUGOCA, and you touch both when boarding and when getting off. Trams issue nothing on board, and you settle up as you step off.
For 25 October 2026 to 31 January 2027 the scheduled domestic network covers Tokyo Haneda, Narita, Sapporo, Sendai and Okinawa Naha, with the Narita service listed only to 21 December 2026. International routes for the same period are Taipei, Hong Kong, Seoul, Cheongju and Hanoi, while Dalian, Beijing, Shanghai and Bangkok are suspended.
The last bus out of the airport goes at 21:55; from the Hiroshima Station tram stop, the final route 2 service covering the whole line to Hiroden-Miyajimaguchi is the 22:31. On the JR ferry's regular timetable the last crossing out to the island is around 22:42 and the last sailing back in the 22:00 hour, around 22:14. Arriving that late means sleeping on the island or giving up the crossing until morning.
Airport buses use Platform 5 at Hiroshima Station's Shinkansen Gate, the same place they arrive. Allow for the scheduled 50 minutes plus check-in, and remember that station departures finish at 19:00 even though the airport runs buses later into the evening, so an evening flight may need a different route.
