Updated 4 November 2026

In shortThis Hiroshima bike tour is a 3 to 4 hour morning ride across the flat city centre with an English-speaking guide, starting at 4-5-4 Otemachi in Naka-ku. The route stops at Peace Memorial Park, the Atomic Bomb Dome, Hiroshima Castle and Shukkeien, and the bike, helmet and bottled water are provided. It suits travellers who want an active first look at the city rather than a full day of museum interiors and a Miyajima crossing.

What the Hiroshima bike tour covers

The ride lasts 3 to 4 hours and takes in four stops: 20 minutes in Peace Memorial Park, 10 minutes at the Atomic Bomb Dome, 25 minutes at Hiroshima Castle and 25 minutes in Shukkeien. Between them you follow city streets and the riverside paths of the delta. The guide speaks English, the group is small, and the bikes are Trek machines with a helmet and bottled water supplied.

Hiroshima is built on flat ground between river channels, which is the practical reason a bike works here better than in most Japanese cities. Distances between the main sights are short, the river paths run almost without interruption, and nothing on the route asks for a climb. Pace is unhurried, with commentary at each stop rather than while you pedal.

The tour does not go inside the Peace Memorial Museum and it does not cross to Miyajima. Garden admission at Shukkeien is included; alcoholic drinks, hotel pickup and gratuities are not. If you want the museum's permanent exhibition and Itsukushima Shrine in the same day, one of the full-day guided options on this site is the better fit, and this morning ride pairs well with an afternoon or evening elsewhere in the city.

The ride step by step

  1. Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park 20 min
A slow, quiet ride through the park, a designed landscape of about 122,100 square metres completed on 1 April 1954 to a plan by three architects including Kenzo Tange. The guide pauses for a short commentary and old photographs of the district as it looked before the war.
  2. Atomic Bomb Dome 10 min
A short stop at the Dome, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List on 5 December 1996. Time to take photographs and to stand still for a few minutes before moving on.
  3. Hiroshima Castle 25 min
You ride into the castle grounds and through the landscaped gardens while the guide runs through the castle's history. The main keep closed in March 2026 on safety grounds, so this is an exterior view; the reconstructed Ninomaru buildings stand on the same side of the moat.
  4. Shukkeien 25 min
The last stop is Shukkeien, laid out from Genna 6 (1620) as the villa garden of Hiroshima's lord Asano Nagaakira and designed by his chief retainer and tea master Ueda Soko. Admission is included, and the guide explains how the water, stone and planting are balanced.
